Bon Week-End

This weekend has been fun! My friends went on an excursion with our program to Loire Valley. I went in June and I didn't think it would be worth going again so I am spending my weekend doing my own thing in Paris. Which has been fun! They all left early this morning so we hung out yesterday at my favorite place, the Eiffel Tower! We had a picnic and all brought cheese, baguette, fruit, meat, Nutella and drinks and had a great time. Danielle, Jennifer, Maddy, Nicole and I got there at around 1-1:30 and before we knew it, it was 5! Laura showed up after her class and we all ate some more and took lots of pictures.

 Bahaha segway tour.

Today I woke up and painted. I am just in love with Leonardo DiCaprio (mainly young Leo) so I decided to watch his movie Shutter Island. It's also a psychological thriller so I loved it. But I had to wait to watch it in the daylight. I painted something not for class as I watched the movie and I will give this one to my host parents. I took 3 minutes to get ready and got on the metro to Sacre Coeur. I was switching at a station from line 7 to line 1 and as I when the train arrived to the platform there were many people getting off at the stop. They took forever getting off so there wasn't much time for people to get on the train. The doors are only open for about 10 seconds and they close very forcefully. I hopped on as soon right as it beeped to signal that the doors were shutting. I turned around to face the doors to see a man smooshed between the doors and the safety guard thing that keeps people from falling into where the tracks are. Literally stuck in the doors! One leg was on the train, one on the platform and both sets of doors were in the central of his body.  The train doesn't leave until all of the doors are completely closed, thank god, or else he would've been ripped in half. He and his friend ripped the doors open (and they are really heavy because I have tried to hold one open for someone before). As he was getting freed, a 13ish year old American girl had jumped on the train and realized her family didn't have enough time to get on. She INSTANTLY panicked and screamed for her mom a little bit and almost started crying. The guy who just freed himself and his friend still had their hands in the doors and the three of them together again ripped open the doors so she could get back on the platform. She was holding a shopping bag and it got stuck in the door and the handles ripped and it sat on the floor of the train as the doors shut and everyone on the train looked around at each other and the bag. It all happened within about 5 seconds. No one really knew what to do so a lady just slid the bag out of the way. My stop to connect to another line was only two away so I grabbed the bag, got off at the stop, and waited on the platform for the next train. Everyone on the train was staring at me because usually people walk away when they get off. But I just stood there with a ripped shopping bag. I figured they wouldn't have gotten off at the last stop because there was no connecting line at that station. I looked in the bag while I was waiting and there was little bottles of olive oil and then 4 things wrapped in tissue paper. But everything looked really expensive. The next train pulled up and I jumped on and I found the mom in the white sun-hat and her kids. Before I could even ask if that was their bag, the mom got so excited and said "Omg how did you ever manage that? Thank you so much! Did you get off here and wait for us?" The 13 year old was still shaking and covered her mouth in shock and said thanks so much. I said you're welcome and that that was scary. The mom said that she was just glad she got the most important thing off the train. I said goodbye and jumped back off right as the doors beeped and walked to line 12. For some reason that touched me so much and got a little teary eyed as I was walking. It was scary seeing how afraid the girl was. At first I didn't think it was a big deal if they were one stop apart because I know that it would be easy to find each other. Just take the next train! But thinking about being in middle school on a train fully of strangers in a different country, would be terrifying!! And seeing how thankful they were to have their stuff back made me really happy. And it makes me happy thinking that I am now in their memories of Paris and maybe they'll write about me in their Paris blog :)

I made it to Sacre-Coeur and realized that my camera battery was dead. But that's ok because that was my third time there so I have already taken some pictures. Since I was little, I have wanted to get a drawing of myself done like they have a theme parks. We'll, there are many cute little shops in this area and a square of just artists painting and selling their work on the street. One side of the square is only artists doing portraits. The first time I visited this area I knew I wanted to get one here! But decided to come back when I had a good hair day. And today was that day.

There is a giant elevator in the metro at this station because it is under a mountain and it is a veryyyy long walk upstairs to the exit. It is stainless steel so people have scratched a ton of things into it for graffiti. But this is the best graffiti I've ever seen!

He did it in about 30 minutes and I had to sit there like that and stare at nothing and even if I moved my eyes he would tell me not to move. It was done in a chalk or pastel. I think it's so cool!

The view of the tiny Eiffel Tower in the background.

There was a camera crew following this guy in the blue shirt under the umbrella around. So I had to take a picture. The lady in the hat under the umbrella was turning this little handle music was coming out of this box and she was singing in French.

I came back to my apartment and skyped with my family and even Lennie which was great! My mom will be here on Thursday and I am so excited! For the last few days I have been thinking about all the fun things I want to show her.

I went to the movies tonight on the Champs Elysees and saw Monstres Academy. I couldn't find the theater when I got off the metro since I kept going in the wrong entrance since the movie theater took up the whole block and there were restaurants in between the entrances! I got there at about 8 and when I went to buy a ticket, the guy said "The next movie is at 10:10...."
And I said "Isn't there one at 7:45?"
"No. It's too late!"
"....." *look at him like he's crazy*
"It's too late."
"It only started 15 minutes ago..."
"..........Is that good for you?"
"Yes!"
"Oook....."

I have been dying to see this movie all summer! Don't almost make me leave and come back later. I am so glad he let me in! I got crispy M&M's!!!! They don't even exist anymore in the US I haven't been able to find them for about 10 years! They were delish and the movie was so good! It was the Original Version so it was in English and had French subtitles. Whenever they said Mike, the subtitles would say Bob! I thought that was really funny but I was confused... Probably one of my favorite Disney/Pixars yet. It just made me happy.

Tomorrow is the end of the Tour de France! I am so excited but it's at night so I will paint and go shopping during the day. My mom told me that people keep telling her that they like to read my blog and that makes me so happy! I just write for myself. Write what I want to remember about Paris and if other people find it interesting, that's a just bonus. But thank you for following!
Bonne Nuit!
