Sooo the last few days, I have had a few experiences involving men that I can't not write about.
1. On Thursday, my friend Nicole and I were outside of a museum after our photography class waiting for our next classes to start. We were chatting about different things that we want to do in Paris and all of a sudden a woman appears beside me and picks up a giant men's gold ring up of the ground and gestured like she was asking if I wanted it or if it was mine. We both say "No merci" a few times until she finally went away. When she finally did, I looked at Nicole confused because the lady came out of no where. Nicole told me that she had heard of people doing it and it was a scheme to get money. Now there are a lot of schemes that go on in Paris that people will do to get money. I have heard of both of them and know what to avoid for the most part, but had never heard of this story. She told me that someone will act like they found the ring and if you take it they will yell at you until you give them money saying that it is so valuable and not let you leave. Crazy right? Well, not even 3 minutes later, a guy came up out of no where and with the same ring in hand and said, in broken English, "It's your lucky day."We were both more forceful this time and both just said no a lot and waved him away. Then he leaned in towards us and said "F**k you." I was instantly so mad. That word doesn't bother me, but when a guy says that phrase to a woman, it just makes me so angry. I almost yelled it back to him (sorry mom) and then stopped myself because I got scared that he had a knife or something. But as he walked away, Nicole yelled a swear word in French that we learned can be used in many different ways, much like the F word, at him. It is supposedly really distasteful and kind of trashy to use but I think that was definitely an acceptable time to say it. It bothered me for the rest of the day and it still makes me mad to think a random person trying to take my money got mad enough at me to say that to me and my friend.
2. Thursday night, my friends and I went out to celebrate the 4th of July! We went to an Irish bar where everyone spoke English (the best we could do while in France). The four of us were having a fun time, when a red headed French man came over to our table and makes conversation. He liked to make fun of little things we were saying and of course our French it seemed like that was just one of those people who made fun of other people to make himself feel good. I didn't have a problem with him though he was drunk and was funny every once in a while. For some reason we asked him how to say pig in French, and when he told us the word, the whole table next to us, which was full of his friends, burst out laughing and snorted a little. We thought that they thought we were calling him a pig. Which is funny. Later on in the night, a girl and another guy who were his friends and both spoke great English as well joined our table. The girl Roxane talked about the TV show Friends (and I said "Roxane! like when Phoebe sings Ross caaaaaaaan" and she knew exactly what I was talking about) with us for a while and I talked to the red head's friend about my French and who knows what. Roxane (spelt with one N because "that is the French way") came over to my side of the table and said "I just gave your friends my number we should go out dancing. I love to shake my body! I love dancing." It was really funny because she kept saying I love to shake my body. And I wasn't planning on going out with her but somehow my phone was in her hand and she called herself from my French phone and saved her number in my phone. The night went on and at about 12:20, my friend Jen and I had to leave to go the metro. I was told that the last metro runs at 12:30 or 1 and the stop was a 10 minute walk away. We were both freaking out that we were going miss it! And as we were power walking down the streets of Paris, we both realized we had to pee sooo bad. I thought I was going to pee my pants on the way to the stop. We get to the really nice station and the bathrooms were being renovated. So we just had no choice but to get on the lines to our apartments and hope for the best. I literally never had to pee so bad in my whole life. I lived 12 stops away. I thought I was going to have a new "most embarrassing moment" story from peeing my pants on the metro. But I made it thank god. But I had so much fun that night! Exchanging stories with my friends the next day, Maddy told me that Roxane was trying to get her number to but she gave it to her one number off because I guess that the guys kept asking her if she got our numbers. And my friends were like "Well that's good we got away with no one giving her our numbers" and I said "Uhhhmm" Hahah. Those guys added some entertainment and I am glad to hear that someone here watches Friends!!!!!!!
3. This past weekend, my program group went on a trip to Saint Malo and back to Mont Saint Michel. After dinner in Saint Malo, a big group of us decided to go to a bar. We ended up at the same one that another guy from our program was at and he sat down with us. He had already had a lot to drink. I was having a lot of fun getting to know more people that were in the program! After the guy bought drinks for a few of the girls at our table, he started to run his mouth. We find out that he is homophobic and has cheated on his girlfriend from back home "only" twice since being in France but he really likes her so it's ok because she's not a "sorority slut". He was going on and on and not understanding what the big deal was, but after not that long he was getting yelled at by 6 different girls. It was so frustrating. Usually, at least I thought, people don't argue and defend the not so good things they do. His poor girlfriend. After a while we just tried to ignore him but he kept going on and every other thing that came out of his mouth was extremely offensive.
