Je Suis Malade

So, yesterday I woke up and thought I was feeling better. I had a mild fever and my hives were disappearing in some places. I didn't want to miss class again (the morning class was with Monsieur Chuck Bass look alike so I really didn't want to miss). Well, during the break between the two classes, I began to feel extremely light headed and went home early. I fell asleep and woke up for dinner with a worse fever and a pounding headache. I could feel my pulse in my ears, chest, and top of my head. At dinner I had little appetite and couldn't even eat the best cherries I have ever had in my life. And after dinner everything  was worse and my host mom was really worried. They decided to call an English speaking doctor into the apartment (I didn't know they still did that) and he asked me many questions. When he was done analyzing me, he talked to my host parents a lot in French and wrote some things down.

He looked at me and said "I don't know how to say the name in English, but you have scarlatine."

My stomach dropped. I had a deep feeling that I knew what it was called in English. As soon as he left, I looked it up on Wikipedia and switched the language to English, and I was right. Scarlet fever.

Little Women is one of my favorite stories/movies of all time. All we all know how that ended. Not so good. I was kind of scared at first, BUT they didn't have the medicine back then that we do today. So I am on the mend, taking giant antibiotics pills and drinking lots of water and being somewhat quarantined in my room. But my host parents say they are really sorry and they're being really nice about everything.

But being sick in Paris makes me even more like Madleine, (except she had an appendicitis) which has always been a little dream of mine :)

  1. OMG!!! So sorry you have to stay in your room. :( So glad you are on the mend. Every time I think about you now, I'm going to see Madeleine's sad little face! Get better.... I love to hear about your adventures but lets make them well ones. :) Hugs,
    Kelly

    1. Thanks! I'm starting to feel better! It makes me sad that I have to stay in my room too. I don't feel we'll enough to go anywhere if I could! I think I will be back to normal in a few days :)
