I got back to my apartment from Normandy a few hours ago. The bus ride was about 6 hours long including the bathroom breaks. We went to Mont St. Michel today which was absolutely beautiful! It looks HUGE, and it is really big, but it is built on top of and around a mountain so the very top part of the building is actually only one floor. At first I didn't really understand what Mont St. Michel was, but I learned that the top is a monastery where monks live and do their worship stuff and a town built around that. There were many many stairs to get to the monastery and many different rooms inside the building that were all built in different time periods hundreds of years ago. It was cool to see the different architecture and learn what each room was used for. I actually got to see part of Mass that was going on today. Around the lower part of the mountain are houses and a little town. At one time there were about 200 people who lived on the island. There are 25 people still living there today, including 5 monks and 7 sisters. The first part was built in the year 708. Omg, so long ago. And parts have been added, destroyed and rebuilt since then. It is probably one of the coolest things I have ever seen! A little town built around a sacred church on an island. Wow.
The weather was really bad. It was so windy. I looked like a dork with my raincoat hood on and the bungie cord in the hood pulled tight just to keep it on my head.
Ahh so beautiful! The little buildings on the lower part of the mountain are houses! So cute.
Tops of the little houses. They are so old. Walking through the town part I literally felt like I was on a movie set! Or in a part of Disneyland. But it was all real! So cool.

This was my snack. Delish!
One of my favorite pictures from this weekend for obvious reasons.
Like I said, the bus was really long. At the rest stop I wanted to try some European candy. The top one is called Kinder and there is hazelnut cream on the inside of Kit Kat like wafer. And Bounty is just like Mounds but with more chocolate on the outside!
Here are pictures from yesterday at the American cemetery, the beach that was invaded on D Day and Pointe du Hoc.

America! So happy to see this flag!
Going down to the beach.
Below are pictures from Pointe du Hoc. This area is on the edge of a cliff and the giant craters in the ground are from bombs.
